Georgia, a British vocalist, beatmaker, and multi-instrumentalist, crafts intense and heartfelt compositions that ingeniously fuse elements from house, new wave, and post-punk. Her opening full-length, the grime-tinged electro-pop release Georgia from 2015, preceded a turn toward more club-oriented material that retained its full emotional weight. Seeking Thrills, her sophomore album, earned widespread praise upon its 2020 arrival, climbing to number 24 on the U.K. album chart and receiving a Mercury Prize nomination. She then joined forces with Gorillaz, Mura Masa, and William Orbit before enlisting Rostam to produce her third album, Euphoric, which surfaced in 2023.

The daughter of Leftfield’s Neil Barnes, Georgia took up drumming in childhood and later pursued ethnomusicology at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. She launched her career as a session drummer alongside unconventional British pop figures such as Kwes., Micachu, and JUCE. Bolstered by encouragement from those collaborators, she began developing original material, and JUCE’s Cherish Kaya issued her debut EP, Come In, on Kaya Kaya Records in 2014. The record presented Georgia’s singular and unmistakably British brand of underground pop, echoing the disruptive debuts of M.I.A. and Micachu. In 2015 she contributed vocals to “Universal Everything” on Leftfield’s Alternative Light Source; Domino signed her that year and released her self-titled debut album that August.

After a short break she returned with the 2017 single “Feel It,” followed in 2018 by “Mellow” featuring Shygirl and “Started Out.” She also appeared on 2018 albums by Suicideyear and HONNE as well as Africa Express’s 2019 full-length Egoli. The ecstatic dance-pop single “About to Work the Dancefloor” drew strong acclaim and built anticipation for her second album. Seeking Thrills arrived in early 2020, an emotionally vivid set that channeled euphoria and heartbreak through upbeat dance tracks inspired by early house and techno; the release marked Georgia’s chart breakthrough and earned a Mercury Prize shortlist. Remixes and collaborations with Jessie Ware, Mura Masa, and Gorillaz ensued, while the single “Get Me Higher” with David Jackson appeared in 2021. She featured on William Orbit’s 2022 album The Painter. For the first time using an outside producer on her own material, Georgia traveled to Los Angeles to record her third album with Rostam, formerly of Vampire Weekend. Euphoric, blending introspection with club ecstasy, arrived in 2023.
