Anna Lotterud records as Anna of the North and shapes an electro-pop sound that settles into distinctive, softly blurred zones of the dancefloor. Her first single, “Sway,” spread rapidly online during 2014, which led to a Chainsmokers remix and a place on Kygo’s tour. The full-length debut Lovers, shaped by the end of a relationship, surfaced in 2017, while the follow-up Dream Girl appeared in 2019. A run of singles and EPs preceded Crazy Life in 2022, an album that contained the Gus Dapperton duet “Meteorite.”

Born in Gjøvik, Norway, Anna encountered New Zealand producer Brady Daniell-Smith at one of his performances during her time as a student in Melbourne, Australia. The pair connected immediately and completed “Sway” via Skype before issuing the track in mid-2014. Its digital traction produced contracts with +1 Records/Honeymoon in the United States and PIAS’ Different Recordings in the United Kingdom, followed by the official Chainsmokers remix in September. Early 2016 brought the additional tracks “The Dreamer” and “Baby.” Lotterud maintained momentum that year with a European tour supporting Kygo and closed the period with the standalone singles “Oslo” and “Us.”

Further recognition arrived in 2017 when Anna of the North joined Frank Ocean on Tyler, The Creator’s “911/Mr. Lonely,” an appearance that secured a spot on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. That September she released the Daniell-Smith-produced Lovers. After ending the partnership with Daniell-Smith, Lotterud issued the introspective single “Leaning on Myself” early in 2019; it later appeared on Dream Girl, which arrived in October and enlisted more than a dozen producers and co-writers. The Believe EP followed twelve months afterward and included a version of Cher’s 1998 chart-topper of the same name, two original songs, and home-recorded renditions of earlier material. After the independent 2021 release “Here’s to Another,” she issued the Gus Dapperton collaboration “Meteorite” in mid-2022. Paired with “Dandelion,” the track anchored the third album Crazy Life, which emerged later that year. A deluxe edition containing further material, among them the single “Try My Best,” was released in April 2023.
