Biography
Originally gaining attention through modeling work, Charlotte Lawrence shifted focus toward moody electro-pop during the mid-2010s, though her languid take on the Grease classic "You're the One That I Want" sparked widespread viral attention in 2017. She moved swiftly to build on that momentum, issuing the digital singles "Seventeen" and "Sleep Talking." Following the arrival of her debut EP Young in 2018, Lawrence joined Atlantic Records and delivered the mini-album Charlotte in 2021.
Born on June 8, 2000, to actress Christa Miller, recognized for her roles in the sitcoms The Drew Carey Show and Scrubs, and TV producer Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs and co-creator of Spin City and Cougar Town, she entered modeling as a teenager. Her initial prominent assignment came from Chanel, which opened doors to features in Vogue and Galore. Concurrently she launched her recording career with the 2014 digital single "The Finish Line," followed by a second single, "Ever After," in 2015.
An early career lift arrived when Natalie Maines asked Lawrence to join the Dixie Chicks onstage at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016. Early the next year she unveiled her smoldering rendition of "You're the One That I Want," whose online traction drew broader notice. After signing to Human Re Sources she issued the further singles "Seventeen" and "Sleep Talking" before the close of 2017, then brought out "Keep Me Up" and "Young and Reckless" in 2018; the latter track appeared on Young, her debut EP released that June.
In 2019 Lawrence moved to Atlantic, where "Why Do You Love Me" marked her first single for the label. Additional digital releases continued through 2020, after which "Joke's on You" secured prominent placement on the soundtrack for the DC Comics superhero film Birds of Prey. Her second EP, Charlotte, arrived in March 2021, preceded by the singles "Talk You Down," "You," and "Cowboys." A fresh run of singles began with "Morning" in 2022.
