Lennon Stella's route into music has included so many unforeseen detours that it could easily pass for scripted television drama, fittingly enough given her own history with the medium. Born in Ontario, Canada on August 13, 1999, four years ahead of her sister Maisy, she and her sibling are the children of Marylynne and Brad Stella, who recorded together as the country duo the Stellas. The husband-and-wife pair earned national notice by placing fourth on the second season of CMT's Can You Duet in 2009, which led EMI Music Canada to release their self-titled album in 2011. That exposure helped secure roles for Lennon and Maisy on the series Nashville, where they portrayed the daughters of Connie Britton's character Rayna James.

The show premiered in October 2012, and only a handful of episodes later Lennon & Maisy sang "Telescope," one of many tracks they contributed to its soundtrack releases. Their 2013 cover of the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" was issued as a single and crossed over onto both country and pop charts. No other Nashville cast member matched the sisters' single sales volume. During the program's fifth season Lennon co-wrote four songs that appeared on the series: "Saved," "In Love," "Clockwork," and "Tennis Shoes." In December 2016 she joined Marc Scibilia for a holiday duet, a version of John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," and the following year she paired with Barns Courtney on "Baby It's Cold Outside."

After the series concluded in July 2018, Lennon quickly moved into solo work, signing with the Columbia-distributed imprint Records LLC. She released her first single, an acoustic rendition of "Like Everybody Else," that August, followed later in the year by the EP Love, Me. Her full-length debut, Three. Two. One., arrived in 2020 and leaned into electronic pop rather than the country style that first brought her attention. The album reached the Billboard Top 100, and she continued in a comparable vein with the 2021 single "Fancy."
