Blending crisp vocals with jazz nuances alongside grittier indie textures and personal singer/songwriter material, Cyn first surfaced through the 2014 EP CYN. Landing a contract with Katy Perry’s Unsub Records in 2017 led to a run of distinctive singles that swiftly accumulated seven-figure streams, among them the 2017 track “Only with You” and the gentle 2018 release “I’ll Still Have Me.” Additional millions of plays arrived via 2020 cuts such as “Drinks” and the Birds of Prey soundtrack contribution “Lonely Gun.” The arrival of motherhood infused her debut full-length, Valley Girl, issued in 2024, with greater assurance and expanded outlooks.

Born Cynthia Nabozny near Detroit, she absorbed classic vocalists like Frank Sinatra and Doris Day while spending time with her grandmother and simultaneously entered talent competitions and posted covers on social platforms. A pivotal lift came from meeting Katy Perry on the California Dreams Tour in 2011, after which she kept writing and performing through her studies at Chicago’s DePaul University. Over time she worked with producers Felix Snow, Sorrow, and Galimatias, resulting in five tracks featuring her voice on the self-titled 2014 EP. Her standalone 2015 single “Something” achieved modest streaming traction.

In 2017 Cyn became the first artist signed to Unsub Records and issued the OMEGA-produced single “Together.” While continuing to drop occasional singles she supported BØRNS and Sigrid live and reached her festival debut at Bonnaroo in mid-2018. That September she released “I’ll Still Have Me,” which had amassed millions of plays by year’s end; also in September 2018 her song “Moment of Truth” appeared in the animated family film Smallfoot. The 2019 singles “Holy Roller” and “Never-ending Summer,” together with “I’ll Still Have Me,” formed that year’s Mood Swing EP. In 2020 she delivered “Drinks” and “Lonely Gun,” the latter featured on the Birds of Prey soundtrack.

In 2021 she and her husband, film director Kyle Newman, welcomed a child, and Cyn supplied a cover of Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me” for the Netflix film He’s All That. The next year brought the soundtrack entry “Heaven Shine a Light” for HBO Max’s Moonshot plus the wry “House with a View.” Along with singles such as “Growing Up” and “Losing Sleep,” the latter appeared on her first album-length project, Valley Girl, released in November 2024. The record emerged in stages: Side A: Lost on Laurel arrived in September, Side B: Los Angeles, No Offense followed two months later, and Valley Girl (Extended) appeared just before year’s end.
