Biography
British pop singer Emily Burns first drew notice during the 2010s for her brightly emotive approach after uploading material while employed as a receptionist at London's Abbey Road Studios. Her first full-length project, Seven Scenes from the Same Summer, appeared in 2018. A trio of EPs—PDA, My Town, and I Love You, You're the Worst—carried her into 2020, after which she issued the finely crafted singles "Balcony Floor" in 2023 and "8 Hours Behind" the following year.
Born in Rugby, Warwickshire, in 1994, Burns started composing songs as a teenager under the sway of pop and R&B acts such as P!nk and Macy Gray. In 2010, at age sixteen, she advanced to the finals of the regional Live and Unsigned contest, with several of her early recordings receiving airplay. She later attended an industry master class at the renowned Abbey Road Studios, where she encountered producer Rob Cass, who mentored her and assisted in shaping her sound.
For several years Burns divided her schedule between completing her education in Rugby and laying down tracks with Cass in London. At eighteen she relocated permanently to the capital and accepted the receptionist role at Abbey Road, continuing her sessions with the producer. By 2016 she was sharing songs online and releasing singles including "Plasters, Glitter and Glue" and "Take It or Leave It," which prompted favorable comparisons to Tove Lo, Sigrid, and Banks. She joined the 37 Adventures roster and delivered her debut album, Seven Scenes from the Same Summer, in 2018, featuring the cuts "Bitch" and "Girlfriend at the Time."
The next year brought the EPs PDA and My Town, while I Love You, You're the Worst surfaced in 2020. Additional singles arrived thereafter, among them 2023's "Balcony Floor" and "Cheating on Her," followed by "8 Hours Behind" in 2024.
