LOVA, the Swedish songwriter whose pop craft blends eccentric rhythmic pulses, memorable hooks, and lyrics touching on societal concerns, gained nationwide attention through her infectious 2018 single “You Me and the Silence” and the EP Scripted Reality that followed. After issuing a second EP, she resurfaced in 2021 with her first full-length album Grown-ish and a cover of ABBA’s “Happy New Year,” which entered the Swedish singles chart.

Stockholm-based Lova Alvilde Sönnerbo began writing and singing music at age seven, later uploading her own material to social platforms while still in her early teens. She studied at music school and entered several competitions before releasing tracks as Lova Alvilde on Universal Music’s Spinnup imprint in 2015. Returning in 2018 under the name LOVA, her debut single “You Me and the Silence” became a breakthrough that earned widespread domestic praise, prompting Universal to issue the EP Scripted Reality later that year. Early 2019 brought the single “My Name Isn’t,” a catchy yet reflective track centered on female empowerment, which appeared months afterward on her next EP, A Gentleman’s Guide. Her debut album Grown-ish arrived on Universal in early 2021, and that November her version of the ABBA classic “Happy New Year” climbed to a career-best number 65 on the Swedish chart.
