Biography
Prior to stepping out as a performer in her own right, the Dublin-raised singer and songwriter Ruth-Anne Cunningham built a catalog of pop material for artists that included JoJo, Britney Spears, and Niall Horan. Born in Donaghmede, Ireland, she displayed an early and unmistakable pull toward music, prompting a move to Los Angeles at age seventeen. There she co-wrote JoJo’s 2006 hit single “Too Little, Too Late.” During the following ten years her primary focus remained behind-the-scenes composition, yielding further successes such as Britney Spears’ “Work Bitch,” One Direction’s “Where Do Broken Hearts Go,” and the Martin Garrix and Bebe Rexha collaboration “In the Name of Love.” She simultaneously developed a performing identity, appearing under the name Rooty on Cedric Gervais’ “Missing You” and Lindsey Stirling’s “Love’s Just a Feeling.” After teaming with JRY for “Pray,” featured on the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack in 2017, she issued her first solo release as RuthAnne, the single “The Vow.” Additional tracks arrived throughout 2018—“Take My Place,” “Liquid,” and “It Is What It Is”—while she also opened concerts for Hozier and Alanis Morissette. The year 2019 opened with the release of “Survivor,” followed by the Swales collaboration “Higher (Call My Name)” and, soon after, the track “Love Again.”
