Welsh singer/songwriter Betsy blends an affinity for high fashion, a commanding vocal range, and an unpretentious demeanor. She entered the world on a goose farm in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, where an early ambition for music was tempered by her mother’s insistence on a practical fallback. To satisfy that requirement she relocated to London and enrolled in fashion studies, yet kept singing at local open-mike nights throughout her student years. Her coursework eventually led to an internship at the Paris luxury house Balenciaga, but she continued shuttling back to London each weekend for performances. One of those appearances drew the notice of Joe Goddard, with whom she recorded and issued the single “Endless Love.” Buoyed by its reception, Betsy abandoned her Paris position and returned to a caravan in Wales to concentrate on songwriting. After sending unsolicited demos to various labels without success, an acquaintance in the music industry invited her to appear on another artist’s recording. While working on that track she encountered two managers affiliated with Warner Bros., who, impressed by the material they had heard, offered her an advance. She applied the funds to further writing sessions in the same caravan, culminating in her self-titled debut album, which appeared in 2017.
