Biography
Britain's Gracey crafts songs with a dusky vocal tone and a moody atmosphere rooted in electronic pop textures alongside R&B conventions. Her breakthrough arrived through a 2020 collaboration with 220 Kid on "Don't Need Love," a track that appeared on the mini-album The Art of Closure. The Fragile EP followed in 2021, after which she issued further singles such as "Lonely Heart" and "Delirium."
Grace Barker entered the world in 1998 and spent her childhood in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, studying voice and taking part in stage productions. By roughly age 14 she had enrolled at The Brit School, the well-regarded performing-arts institution located in nearby Croydon. Early on she drew from vocalists including Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry, creating and sharing original material through online platforms. Eventually the Kent-based production collective Xenomania noticed her work and enlisted her as a staff songwriter. During that period Gracey established a reputation for writing material recorded by Jonas Blue, MJ Cole, Sub Focus, Olly Murs, and additional artists. Over time her own catalog expanded, shaped by the approaches of Sia, Julia Michaels, Imogen Heap, and Francis and the Lights.
Her first official release came in 2019 with the single "Different Things," a yearning electronic ballad shaped alongside longtime associate Alan Sampson. The same year the track appeared on her introductory EP, Imposter Syndrome.
Further attention arrived via the 2019 release "Don't Need Love" alongside 220 Kid, which reached number nine on the U.K. singles chart. Concurrently, Gracey received a diagnosis of vocal nodules and underwent corrective surgery. Once healed she resumed activity, issuing 2020's "Empty Love" with Ruel and "Alone in My Room (Gone)" ahead of the mini-album The Art of Closure.
Fragile, another EP, surfaced in 2021 and included the track "What a Waste." In the following year she reentered the U.K. singles chart's Top 100 via "Lonely Heart," a collaboration with Jax Jones and Martin Solveig. Additional independent singles surfaced in 2024, among them "Delirium" and "Rhetorical Questions."
