Biography
Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sam Hall records lo-fi bedroom pop under the name Ghost Orchard and self-released his first full-length effort, Poppy, in 2015. The following year Orchid Tapes paired a reissue of that debut with Hall’s second album, Bliss, a roster move that also aided the early trajectories of his stated inspirations Spencer Radcliffe, Katie Day, and Alex G. On 2019’s warmly received Bunny the artist merged sincere trap-folk with understated electronic pop, its lyrics suffused with the bruised hopefulness of youthful romance. Issued by Winspear, the 2022 projects Invisible String and Rainbow Music were cut in separate sessions and found Hall venturing further into experimental, experiential territory while retaining an introspective bedroom-pop focus.
