Golden Daze, an indie ensemble rooted in Los Angeles, crafts melodic dream pop laced with psychedelic flourishes drawn from the 1960s. The group aligned itself with the Autumn Tone imprint to issue a self-titled debut in 2016 that carried a pronounced lo-fi character, then returned three years afterward with the comparatively refined Simpatico.

Ben Schwab and Jacob Loeb established the project in 2013 as a songwriting partnership; the pair had first connected through overlapping musical tastes and a common Midwestern background. Their initial sketches leaned acoustic, yet the sessions gradually shifted toward lo-fi and shoegaze textures by the time the album was completed. Autumn Tone, an L.A. label, signed Golden Daze in 2015 and released the self-titled record the following February. Over the next two years the band shared stages with Whitney, Woods, and Twin Peaks while shaping material for a successor. Simpatico emerged in February 2019 as a more deliberate production that spotlighted the intertwined vocals of the two principal writers and traced themes that alternated between friendship and friction.
