In 2018, while away from familiar surroundings, Jenny Pulse and Tim Kinsella originated the project Good Fuck by merging a collage aesthetic with frenzied electronic textures. Pulse contributed her experience shaping minimal electronic sounds, while Kinsella brought decades of work with conceptually driven rock bands including Joan of Arc and Make Believe; their concentrated week of joint activity produced the duo’s first album.

Although Kinsella initially proposed expanding some existing demos, Pulse insisted on starting without any prior material. In March 2018 the pair traveled from Chicago to an artists’ colony in upstate New York and began composing there. Selecting passages from various books as source material, they generated beats and synthesizer patterns to underpin their fragmented vocalizations.

The resulting scrambled audio was shaped into thirteen tracks that became Good Fuck’s self-titled debut album. Released by the Joyful Noise label in spring 2019, the record led the duo to schedule a tour in support of its arrival.
