Seattle's Great Grandpa fuse hazy grunge pop textures with layered, at times ambitious arrangements and a pronounced melodic focus. Their first album, Plastic Cough, surfaced in 2017 and quickly drew nationwide attention, prompting repeated cross-country tours that preceded the 2019 release of the wider-ranging and more varied Four of Arrows.

Alex Menne (vocals), Pat Goodwin (guitar, vocals), Carrie Goodwin (bass, vocals), Dylan Hanwright (bass, vocals), and Cam Laflam (drums, vocals) each came from separate Seattle projects before uniting as Great Grandpa near the end of 2014. They began recording immediately, issuing their opening EP, Can Opener, on Broken World Media by March of the following year. Two years after that, Plastic Cough arrived on Brooklyn-based Double Double Whammy Records as a notably collaborative effort shaped by input from several members and revealing a breadth that moved past straightforward '90s grunge references. Intense touring soon scattered the musicians across different regions of the country, a shift that informed the denser, more inward-facing character of their second album, Four of Arrows, in 2019.
