Biography
Green Apple Quick Step originated in Seattle, where the group issued several energetic post-grunge recordings during the middle of the 1990s. Their first effort, Wonderful Virus, appeared on Medicine Records—an imprint supported by Reprise—in 1994, after which Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard stepped in to produce the follow-up album Reloaded two years later. Gossard also opened his personal studio to the musicians without charge and subsequently invited vocalist Ty Willman to handle lead vocals on the debut single from Gossard’s initial solo release, Bayleaf. Willman joined forces with bassist and backing singer Mari Ann Braeden for further work alongside Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready under the name $10,000 Gold Chain. The band contributed tracks to the films The Basketball Diaries and The Cable Guy, then cut New Disaster for Columbia in 1998 prior to breaking up. Willman later performed with Devilhead and launched the solo endeavor Calm Down Juanita.
