Contemporary instrumentalist Greg Maroney crafts solo piano pieces that summon reflective narratives and scenes from the rural American countryside, above all the south central Pennsylvania region where he makes his home alongside his spouse and a large collection of animals. Simple in construction yet executed with masterful touch, his music moves through moods from serene and unhurried to wistful while consistently reflecting an existence lived in harmony with the natural world. Since the 1990s this award-winning artist has issued dozens of recordings, most of them original compositions, among them Sentinel in 2002 and Wind Chimes in 2005. He has also produced sacred collections such as A Christmas Collection in 2011 and Hymns: Healing Piano Solos in 2016.
Maroney took up both classical and jazz piano study at the age of five; during the early 1970s he added classical Indian music to his training. Across the Pennsylvania region he appears at restaurants, radio stations, weddings, private gatherings, and even the governor’s mansion, while also performing at venues throughout the United States. His debut album, Songs of the Water Rose, arrived in 1997. Subsequent releases have appeared at a steady pace and include Copper Hat in 2001, Harmony Grove in 2003, and The Garden Gate in 2009. In 2011 he issued both A Christmas Collection and The Spectrum of Love. After further solo piano works such as Coming Home in 2014, he presented the ambient-mix album The Light Within in 2016 along with Hymns: Healing Piano Solos and the initial volume of Quiet Piano Improvisations. The follow-up volume emerged in 2017 together with Star Light, Star Bright. During 2018 Maroney released a quartet of solo piano improvisation albums, each devoted to one of the four seasons. Near the close of that year he collaborated with Sherry Finzer on Remembrances.
