Grischa Lichtenberger

German electronic musician and visual artist Grischa Lichtenberger fashions severe, angular sonic constructions frequently drawn from field recordings, converting ordinary surroundings into incisive digital shards that he assembles with exacting accuracy. In common with numerous Raster-Noton associates, his confrontational sonic output gets reshaped into distorted rhythmic patterns rooted in techno and electro, though the results remain too fragmented and oblique for dancing. The ambitious triple set Spielraum/Allgegenwart/Strahlung from 2016 stands among his most polished and meticulously realized efforts.

Lichtenberger first appeared in 2009 via the abrasive and disorienting ~Treibgut EP, which formed part of Raster-Noton’s Unun 12" series. Spanish imprint Semantica Records put out his Graviton - Cx (Rigid Transmission) EP two years afterward. His initial album-length statement, And IV (Inertia), arrived on Raster-Noton in 2013, followed in 2015 by La Demeure; Il y a Péril en la Demeure on the identical imprint. That same year he joined Jesse Osborne-Lanthier for the full-length Conversations sur Lettres Mortes, released through Cosmo Rhythmatic, while Raster-Noton simultaneously issued the triple LP Spielraum/Allgegenwart/Strahlung. Raster brought out Re: Phgrp in 2019, his reinterpretation of Consequences by jazz outfit Philipp Gropper’s Philm. The solo album Kamilhan, il y a péril en la demeure emerged in 2020.
