Biography
After co-founding the Raster imprint alongside Olaf Bender in 1996, the prolific German artist Frank Bretschneider issued multiple strains of experimental music through aliases such as Komet and Produkt. In 1999 he teamed with Carsten Nicolai—operator of the Noton label—to establish the Raster-Noton collective. Later that year Bretschneider issued his first full-length album, Rand, under his own name on the Mille Plateaux label. Like the output of his Raster venture, the record pursued an elevated, near-academic approach that placed a philosophic framework behind the sound. One year afterward he followed with a second solo album, Curve, again on Mille Plateaux.
