Otomo Yoshihide launched Ground Zero in autumn 1990. Kato Hideki joined him at the outset as bassist in the Japanese improvised noise rock outfit. Regular contributors over time featured drummer Uemura Masahiro, keyboardist Chino Syuichi, saxophonist Hirose Junji, guitarist Uchihashi Kazuhisa, and Kimoto Kazuyoshi on strings. Yoshihide’s chief undertaking throughout the decade, the group placed him on turntables, sampler, and guitar. Its final performance, Last Concert, took place on March 8, 1998 and surfaced the next year through Amoebic, the label operated by Yoshihide, Sachiko M, and Haco.
