Hair Police constructs infernal sonic barricades through its fusion of conventional rock gear with electronics, tape manipulation, and oscillators, yielding textures that echo Throbbing Gristle, early Black Dice, and Wolf Eyes. The ensemble originated in Lexington, KY, during January 2001. Matt Minter and Ross Compton appeared in the initial configuration, yet the unit quickly stabilized around Mike Connelly on guitar, vocals, tapes, and noise, Robert Beatty handling electronics, and Trevor Tremaine covering drums, vocals, and tapes. Shortly after its inception the band issued its debut recording, History of Ghost Dad, via Gods of Tundra in 2001. Freedomfrom put out Blow Out Your Blood the next year. During 2003 Hair Police entered a phase of heightened output, generating Movies: Live '01-'02 on Animal Disguise as a cassette, the Mortuary Servants 7", a self-titled cassette for Hospital Productions, Probe Cutting on Gods of Tundra as a cassette, and split releases with Cadaver in Drag and Viki, the latter release providing the group its broadest reach. Obedience Cuts appeared in 2004 along with a split shared with Crystal Fantasy. Two further albums, Constantly Terrified and Drawn Dead, arrived the subsequent year together with a CD reissue of the self-titled Hospital Productions recording.
