An idiosyncratic guitarist and composer blending intricate acoustic fingerstyle with atmospheric textures drawn from the Texas Panhandle, Hayden Pedigo has built an eclectic body of work since his first release at age 19. His atmospheric solo efforts include the 2013 album Seven Years Late and the 2017 release Greetings from Amarillo, while he has also assembled an instrumental guitar collection for Tompkins Square, worked alongside art-rock figures such as Zappi Diermaier and Charles Hayward, mounted a 2018 bid for Amarillo city council, and appeared in campaigns for Gucci. His shifting public images, which have included a pinstripe-suited cowboy and a makeup-clad goth, eventually led him to settle in Lubbock and join the Mexican Summer roster, home to the widely noticed 2021 album Letting Go and its 2023 follow-up The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored.

Raised in Amarillo, Texas, Pedigo took up the guitar at 12, progressing from early touchstones like Ry Cooder and Stevie Ray Vaughan toward the American Primitive lineage of John Fahey and Robbie Basho. In his teens, progressive music, art rock, and jazz further expanded his range. As a composer he drew singular inspiration from the expansive terrain of the Texas Panhandle, weaving field recordings and processed regional soundscapes into his instrumental pieces.

Marmara Records issued his debut, Seven Years Late, in 2013 when Pedigo was 19. The following year his second album, Five Steps, incorporated contributions from experimental players including Steffen Basho-Junghaus and Fred Frith. An invitation from Tompkins Square to curate the seventh installment of its Imaginational Anthems series raised his profile in avant-garde guitar circles and aligned with the appearance of Do You Sing?, Vol. 1 on Scissor Tail. He next moved to Los Angeles’ Driftless Recordings for Greetings from Amarillo.

In fall 2018 the 24-year-old Pedigo startled observers by entering the race for an Amarillo city-council seat. His unconventional campaign clips and deadpan strategies attracted national notice, resulting in the 2021 documentary Kid Candidate. Though defeated, he earned recognition for spotlighting municipal corruption. Driftless Recordings put out his second album for the label, Valley of the Sun, in 2019; two years later he collaborated with Andrew Weathers on Big Tex, Here We Come. He also joined Mexican Summer as a solo artist and delivered his sixth LP, Letting Go. Having moved southward to Lubbock, he began composing his subsequent record while cultivating an increasingly flamboyant online persona through assorted characters and attire. In a further departure he entered modeling, making his runway debut for Gucci in late 2021 alongside Phoebe Bridgers and St. Vincent. Issued in 2023, his second Mexican Summer album, The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored, took its title from National Lampoon co-founder Doug Kenney and was recorded in Gainesville, Florida with producer Trayer Tryon and Luke Schneider.
