Biography
Hooded Fang came together in 2007 as a Canadian indie rock outfit whose lineup includes vocalist/guitarist Dan Lee, vocalist/bassist April Aliermo, guitarist Lane Halley, and drummer D. Alex Meeks. Their arrival on the music scene occurred in 2008 via a debut EP that set jarring, angular guitar rock against a surf-tinged Wall of Sound, prompting comparisons to Thee Oh Sees, Black Lips, and Broken Social Scene. The band’s first full-length effort, Album, appeared in 2010 and earned a Polaris Prize nomination. Sophomore release Tosta Mista, issued on U.K. label Full Time Hobby, followed in 2012, with Gravez emerging the next year. On 2016’s Venus on Edge the group addressed gentrification in their Toronto home base through dark, post-punk songs. Horizons broadened again the subsequent year on the Dynasty House EP, which incorporated percussionist Jon Pappo into tracks shaped by Lee and Aliermo’s immigrant heritage.
