Biography
Hollerado came together in 2007 as an energetic indie rock outfit based in Ottawa, Ontario. Menno Versteeg on lead vocals and guitar, Dean Baxter on bass and backing vocals, and brothers Nixon on lead guitar with backing vocals and Jake Boyd on drums with backing vocals formed the lineup, with most of them having grown up together on one street in the nearby suburb of Manotick. Their first album, Record in a Bag, appeared in 2009 as a self-released effort that highlighted their high-energy, hook-driven power pop sound and was later issued again in 2010 by the Canadian indie label Arts + Crafts. Steady touring combined with favorable press attention boosted their visibility, resulting in a 2011 Juno Award nomination for Best New Group. White Paint followed as their second LP in 2013 and sent the band on an even more demanding schedule of shows across North America, South America, Europe, and China, where they appeared on bills with the Flaming Lips, Fucked Up, Weezer, Billy Tallent, and the Stills. Their next recording project originated from a special bundle sold with the White Paint album that paired a T-shirt, album, and poster with the promise of a custom song written for each purchaser; the completed set, 111 Songs, required two years of work and contained exactly 111 tracks, which were distributed digitally to fans in early 2015. The title track single arrived first, paving the way for the third studio album, Born Yesterday, released in summer 2017.
