Hailing from New Jersey, the United States jazz disco fusion quartet featured Derrick Dupree on vocals, Al Tanner on lead guitar, Jacob Dixon on bass and Ricci Burgess on drums. Their career began in gospel before they moved into the R&B arena during 1982. First operating under the name A Different Flavour, they later performed as Special Forces and released the single ‘Stroke It’ on Salsoul. Work followed with Curtis Hudson and his wife Lisa Stevens, both members of Pure Energy who had written Madonna’s huge hit ‘Holiday’. The duo rebranded the foursome Hot Streak and composed ‘Body Work’ for them. New York disco label Easy Street acquired the track and arranged a remix by John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez. Containing a familiar US army chant, the recording became popular in US discos and, unsurprisingly, in health clubs. In the UK it reached the summit of the club charts while also entering the Top 20. Despite that promising launch, the group never sustained their hot streak.
