Houses of Heaven, an Oakland trio, delivers a percussive and intense fusion of post-punk, darkwave, and industrial dance driven by forceful rhythms, hazy guitars, and shadowy vocals. Their first full-length release, Silent Places, surfaced in 2020.

Keven Tecon, Nick Ott, and Adam Beck form the lineup, each having previously belonged to Vaniish, which put out an album through Metropolis in 2014. Tecon previously fronted Veil Veil Vanish, a separate Bay Area post-punk act signed to Metropolis in the 2000s, and he also performed with the Soft Moon and Wax Idols in the period immediately preceding Vaniish’s album. The band’s debut EP, Remnant, was produced and mixed by Monte Vallier at Ruminator Studios and mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri. Blending dub-influenced effects with dark post-punk rhythms, the EP appeared on Felte Records in 2017. Silent Places, the group’s 2020 debut album, was produced by Matia Simovich of Inhalt and engineered by Vallier and John McEntire of Tortoise.
