Biography
Led by the heartbroken, ethereal vocals of songwriter Adam Klopp, Choir Boy fuses shimmering '80s pop and new wave influences with brooding indie leanings. The project's first full-length, Passive with Desire, surfaced in 2016.
Insults lobbed at Klopp while he fronted multiple Cleveland groups during his teenage years supplied the name Choir Boy. After leaving the Mormon church and departing Ohio post-high school for college in Utah, he established the project in the mid-2010s. Expanding his recordings with a complete lineup that featured vocalist Katrina Marie Ricks Peterson, guitarist Bret Meisenbach, keyboardist Kyle Hooper, bass player Chaz Costello, and drummer Jacob Hall, Passive with Desire came out via Team Love Records that same year.
Choir Boy subsequently joined Dais Records, which issued the EP Sunday Light in 2017 and followed with an expanded reissue of the debut album the next year. The group shared stages with acts including Cold Cave, Ceremony, and Snail Mail during this period. Working again with Klopp and Costello alongside guitarist Michael Paulsen and saxophonist/keyboardist Jeff Kleinman, the second album Gathering Swans appeared on Dais in 2020.
