Biography
Implodes shape an expansive, layered strain of probing ambient psychedelia that stands apart in its atmospheric reach. Based in Chicago, the four-piece lineup of Ken Camden, Matt Jencik, Emily Elhaj, and Justin Rathell constructs its drifting soundscapes from dense strata of reverb-soaked guitar, synthesizers, and spectral vocals; these elements accumulate until they release a turbulent surge of swirling, introspective experimental rock. The group first appeared in 2009 via a self-titled cassette, followed by the 2011 Kranky album Black Earth. Recurring Dream, marked by greater melodic flow, surfaced two years later.
