Biography
The smooth jazz and hip-hop duo Impromp2 consists of trumpeter and vocalist Johnny Britt alongside rapper Sean E. Mac. Their formation took place in Los Angeles during 1993, sparked when Johnny Britt tried out unsuccessfully for a spot with Sade during her Love Deluxe World Tour. Having trained in music while in Paris and served three years as musical director for the Temptations, Britt proceeded to develop his personal ensemble idea without hesitation. He drew from Sade's smooth R&B approach together with Miles Davis' 1992 hip-hop jazz release Doo-Bop, leading him to seek out rappers capable of merging his soulful singing and trumpet work with a hip-hop feel. Ultimately selecting Los Angeles rapper Sean E. Mac completed the duo's creation. Their initial album, You're Gonna Love It, came out via the Motown subsidiary Mo Jazz in 1995. They followed with Can't Get Enough two years afterward. Impromp2 shifted to Big3 Records in 2003 to issue their third album, Definition of Love. Their fourth studio album, It Is What It Is, surfaced in 2008 through Orpheus/JCS Records. Britt has concentrated primarily on solo work from 2010 onward, issuing Feels So Good in 2012.
