Biography
Imbued with an uplifting and optimistic spirit, the Oregon ensemble Indubious merges reggae, dub, roots, and electronica into their signature rootstronica sound. Brothers Evton and Skip Burton steer the project, which spent more than ten years cultivating an independent following through relentless live work and self-released projects such as the 2013 album Wake the Lion and 2019’s Beleaf, the latter of which reached the summit of Billboard’s Reggae chart.
Both Burtons entered the world with Cystic Fibrosis, a chronic pulmonary condition carrying a limited prognosis. Instead of yielding to that outlook, the siblings directed their focus toward music, channeling their resolve into the creative outlet that became Indubious. The group took shape in Ashland, Oregon in 2008 and issued its first recording, Fresh Leaves, the same year, establishing a foundation built on a solid rhythm section, fluid vocals, keyboards, and electronic elements. The follow-up, Cosmic Seed, arrived in 2009 while the band began to connect with audiences across the West Coast reggae circuit.
During the ensuing four years the brothers sustained their momentum, extending their reach through overseas tours and festival slots that preceded the 2013 arrival of their third album, Wake the Lion, helmed by Italian dub producer Gaudi. Their fourth full-length, From Zero, surfaced in 2017 and became their breakthrough, incorporating guest work from reggae and dancehall figures including Sizzla and Vaughn Benjamin (Midnite). The set marked Indubious’s first appearance on the Billboard Reggae chart, landing at number six. Two years later the self-produced fifth album Beleaf improved on that placement by debuting at number one on the same tally.
