Originating from San Diego, the rock-reggae band Tribal Seeds approaches its sound from an uncommon perspective, drawing greater influence from Steel Pulse and Aswad than from the typical Sublime reference point. The Jacobo brothers—singer Steven and keyboardist Tony-Ray—launched the group in 2005 and delivered its first album, Youth RebelLion, during that same year. Released on the band’s own imprint, that effort marked the start of a series of self-issued projects that soon included a self-titled album in 2008 and The Harvest in 2009. Soundwaves EP arrived in 2011, and Representing followed in 2014, entering the Billboard 200 albums chart. Guest contributions on that release came from Don Carlos, Mykal Rose, and Midnite’s Vaughn Benjamin. Three years afterward Tribal Seeds put out the fittingly named Roots Party.
