Biography
Emerging from Honolulu, the Green rank among the pioneering ensembles that introduced Hawaiian reggae to global listeners. After cousins Caleb Keolanui and JP Kennedy dissolved their prior group Next Generation, they brought Ikaika Antone and Zion Thompson into the fold to create this six-piece outfit. Their self-titled debut surfaced in 2010 and earned digital voters’ nod as Best Reggae Album of that year before capturing the same prize at Hawaii’s 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. The Easy Star label followed with both the EP Love & Affection and the album Ways & Means the next year. Danny Kalb, a frequent collaborator of Jack Johnson, handled production on the 2013 release Hawai'i '13. Dancehall superstar Busy Signal appeared on the single “Marching Orders,” issued in September 2017, which preceded the October arrival of the band’s fourth full-length album of the same name. The group resurfaced in 2019 with the studio LP Black & White plus the standalone single “Criaturas” featuring Harlem Spartans and Jalil.
