Biography
Hailing from Uganda, singer/songwriter Irene Ntale works with assured confidence across dance-pop, contemporary R&B, and reggae. Her first album, Sembera, appeared in 2016, followed by her major-label debut single “Nyamba” in 2019.
Church choir and school performances marked her early years, after which she took up the guitar and began entering talent shows with cover material. She later studied business at Kyambogo University.
Signing with Swangz Avenue in 2013 brought her first studio recording, “Nkubukinze.” The track’s strong reception earned her the Best Female Breakthrough Artist award at the Uganda Music Awards (TUMA). Sembera followed in 2016 and produced several hit songs, among them “He Go Down” and “Gyobera.” In 2017 she received TUMA’s Best Female Artist trophy.
After leaving Swangz Avenue she assembled a new management team and made her U.S. SXSW Festival debut in March 2019. Universal signed her later that year and issued the single “Nyamba” in August.
