Born Robin Albers in the Netherlands, the producer maintains a steady presence behind the decks at Utrecht’s Vlanen club in Holland. Issued in 1993 on Belgium’s R&S Records, his debut outing under the Jaydee alias, the luminous trance track ‘Plastic Dreams’, achieved widespread crossover success thanks to its signature Hammond B3 organ motif. Before that release he had already claimed the Dutch arm-wrestling title on three occasions and represented his country on the national baseball squad. From the early 1980s onward he had hosted a Dutch radio program celebrated for its discerning house selections, a role that ended when the show was cancelled, prompting him to move into production. Once ‘Plastic Dreams’ appeared as the inaugural release on the revived UK branch of R&S, he followed it with the 12-inch ‘Acceleration By Trance’, issued under the Graylock name on Logic Records’ Save The Vinyl label. Departing from standard rave fare, the record carried the foreboding ‘Everybody Feel Free’ on its B-side, a spoken-word cautionary tale about the perils of ecstasy that traced Albers’ own partial autobiography of decline through the drug. A subsequent Graylock single, ‘The Movement’, surfaced on Belgium’s Mental Radio Records, after which he resumed the Jaydee moniker for ‘The Hunter’ on the Dutch imprint Clubstitute.
