Biography
Born in Changwon, South Korea, Jeong Sewoon crafts a sleek modern update on pop sounds drawn from the 1980s and 1990s. Starship Entertainment, already home to Monsta X and Cosmic Girls, brought him aboard, after which multiple EPs charted inside Korea’s Top Ten beginning in 2017. Between those projects he contributed tracks to television scores, among them Wok of Love in 2018 and Alchemy of Souls in 2022.
He grew up in Changwon’s Masan district and later attended Howon University farther west. An appearance on SBS’s K-Pop Star in 2013 drew the label’s notice, leading to an early contract, though his first EP, Ever, did not arrive until 2017. That debut featured Seoul-based guests Brother Su, a singer and songwriter, and rapper Sik-K; the project earned him a Rising Star prize at the Asia Artist Awards that year. In 2018 two additional honors followed for the tender ballad “It’s You,” featured on the tvN series What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, while two further EPs, After and Another, also appeared.
March 2019 brought the Plus Minus Zero EP, whose energetic opening cut “Feeling” included a turn from rap artist Penomeco, also known as Jeong Dong-uk. After the standalone July single “When You Call My Name,” the richly arranged album Day reached stores that October. The first half of what amounted to a debut full-length, 24 Pt. 1, surfaced in July 2020, with its companion installment following early the next year. Although 2021 proved relatively subdued, it included a pair of duets recorded for You Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook program as well as contributions to the soundtracks of The Red Sleeve and My Roommate Is a Gumiho. Mid-2022 found Sewoon exploring sophisticated, stylish pop textures on the EP Where is My Garden!, before he returned to spare acoustic balladry with the September single “Happy Me from Today,” issued through Micro Universe.
