Biography
Baekhyun served as both vocalist and actor within the Korean boy band EXO and its subgroup EXO-K, helping the lively nine-member K-pop act achieve international chart dominance. His polished R&B delivery and magnetic stage presence positioned him as the third member of the group to launch an independent solo career. Following several standalone tracks issued toward the end of the 2010s, he introduced his first official project, the EP City Lights, in 2019. A follow-up EP titled Delight appeared the next year, with two additional releases, Baekhyun and Bambi, arriving in 2021.
Byun Baekhyun entered the world in Bucheon, South Korea, where an early fascination with Rain, the early-2000s K-pop idol, sparked his interest in singing. He entered the SM Entertainment system in 2011 and made his first appearance with EXO at the start of 2012. The ensemble repeatedly claimed the top spot on Korean album rankings and sustained comparable success on Billboard’s U.S. World chart. He also formed the subunit EXO-CBX together with fellow members Chen and Xiumin.
Baekhyun’s initial solo material surfaced in 2015 through the singles “Beautiful” and “Like Rain Like Music.” In 2016 he issued “Dream,” a collaboration with Suzy, and “The Day,” recorded with K. Will. While maintaining commitments to both EXO and EXO-CBX, he kept releasing singles until 2019, when City Lights marked his official EP debut. That concise collection became a top seller in China, reached number one in Korea, and entered the Top Ten on Billboard’s Heatseekers, Independent, and World Albums charts. Delight followed in 2020 and mirrored the commercial performance of its predecessor. In 2021 the EPs Baekhyun and Bambi were released, with Bambi claiming the summit of the South Korean album chart.
