South Korean boy band the Boyz blend upbeat pop with hip-hop and dance elements in their signature style. Attention first arrived via the 2017 track "The Boy" from The First EP, after which Reveal became their initial chart-topper on the Goan Album Chart in 2020. Breaking Dawn followed one year later and landed inside Japan's Top Five. Further number-one placements arrived with the 2021 single-album Maverick plus the EPs Thrill-ing that same year, Be Aware in 2022, and Be Awake in 2023.

The IST Entertainment Group assembled the Boyz in 2017, at which point the lineup consisted of Sangyeon (leader, vocalist), Jacob (vocalist), Younghoon (vocalist), Hyunjae (vocalist), Hwall (vocalist/dancer/rapper), Juyeon (dancer/vocalist), Kevin (vocalist), New (vocalist), Q (dancer/vocalist), and Ju Haknyeon (dancer/vocalist). Their bow came that year through The First EP and its single "Boy." April 2018 brought the second EP The Start, while November saw the arrival of The Only; both reached the Goan Top Five, as did the 2019 single "Bloom Bloom" and the subsequent EPs Dreamlike (2019) and Chase (2020). Around the same period Hwall exited to launch a solo career, initially citing health concerns.

Reveal, the band's first full-length album, appeared in February 2020. Fronted by its title-track single, the set ascended to number one on the South Korean Goan Album Chart and peaked at number 32 in Japan. Shortly afterward the Boyz participated in the Mnet reality series Road to Kingdom and claimed first place. Their debut Japanese album, Breaking Dawn, was also issued and climbed to number four on the Oricon Albums Chart. Maverick returned them to the top of the South Korean rankings in November 2021. Additional EPs arrived in the form of 2021's Thrill-ing and 2022's She's the Boss, the latter year also marked by indefinite hiatuses for both Eric and Sunwoo. August 2022 delivered another South Korean number one with the Be Aware EP, and the ascent continued into 2023 via Be Awake.
