Biography
Emerging in 2017 as a ten-member K-pop act, Golden Child favors bass-driven EDM with subtle infusions of R&B and hip-hop, occasional ballads, and signature precision choreography of extreme complexity. Woollim Entertainment, already known for Infinite and Lovelyz, assembled the lineup and introduced the group through its August 2017 mini-album Gol-Cha!, which entered the South Korean chart at number three behind the funky lead single “DamDaDi.” The roster combined Seungmin, Y, Jaehyun, Jibeom, and Bomin with six members drawn from the label’s earlier W Project trainee showcase—Joochan, Jangjun, Tag, Daeyeol, Donghyun, and Jaeseok—yet Jaeseok departed within six months for health reasons.
Two further mini-albums, Miracle and Wish, both reached number three on the Korean chart and also registered in Japan within the group’s first year, while the single album Goldenness supplied the name for its official fan club. Additional singles paved the way for the full-length debut Re-Boot in late 2019, which peaked at number eight; a repackaged edition titled Without You climbed to number four several months later. The fourth mini-album, Take a Leap, arrived in June 2020 and settled at number six.
Chart momentum culminated in 2021 with the Yes. EP reaching number two and the sophomore album Game Changer matching that domestic success while also placing the single “Ra Pam Pam” on U.S. charts for the first time. In 2022 the group extended its reach to Japan, topping the singles chart with “A Woo!!” and landing the Top Ten entry “Rata-Tat-Tat.”
