Jeremy Enigk first gained notice fronting the acclaimed Seattle outfit Sunny Day Real Estate, whose Sub Pop Records debut Diary appeared in 1994. While tracking the band’s second album he experienced a profound spiritual shift and departed, only to rejoin long enough to finish LP2 before the group disbanded; bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith subsequently enlisted with Dave Grohl in the Foo Fighters. Enigk initially stepped away from music altogether, yet soon resumed playing guitar and composing material for a solo path.

His first solo outing, The Return of the Frog Queen, traded the raw intensity of Sunny Day Real Estate’s emocore for expansive orchestral pop and surfaced in 1996. Shortly afterward the original lineup, absent Mendel, reconvened and completed How It Feels to Be Something On, issued in 1998. The Rising Tide arrived in 2000 but received scant label support, prompting an official breakup the following year.

Within months Enigk regrouped with Goldsmith and Mendel as the Fire Theft, releasing a self-titled album in 2003. A decade after The Return of the Frog Queen he delivered his next solo effort, World Waits, favoring a more conventional rock palette. In August 2007 he followed with the short collection Missing Link—containing four new songs alongside five live-in-studio renditions drawn from World Waits—and two years later unveiled OK Bear.
