Biography
A Connecticut native, Jessica Molaskey has built an extensive résumé of musical-theater roles. On Broadway she portrayed Sarah Cody in Dream True, and she took part in the world premieres of both 3hree and Wise Guys, the latter a musical by John Wiedman and Stephen Sondheim. National tours carried her through Parade, Tommy, City of Angels, Chess, Cats, Dream, Falsettos, Crazy for You, and Les Misérables, while additional stage work encompassed Songs for a New World, Time & Again, Another Midsummer Night, Weird Romance, and Book of the Night. Cast albums preserve her performances in Parade, Weird Romance, Chess, Oklahoma!, Songs for a New World, Saturn Returns, Myths & Hymns, and Windflowers.
Molaskey’s first solo outing arrived in 2002 with Pentimento, an album that recast American popular songs of the 1920s and ’30s in a sleek, jazz-inflected style. A year later she followed with A Good Day, applying the same approach to vocal standards of the 1950s. Her husband, jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli, supplied guitar and production for both projects. Two further releases appeared on PS Classics—Make Believe in 2004 and Sitting in Limbo in 2007—before she moved to Arbors, where she issued A Kiss to Build a Dream On in 2008 and At the Algonquin in 2012. In 2017 she joined the Ghostlight roster and delivered the Joni Mitchell tribute album Portraits of Joni.
