Jhelisa Anderson first gained recognition as lead singer with the Shamen across multiple tracks on their 1993 album Boss Drum. Dorado Records signed her to a solo contract in 1994 after those Shamen releases, among them the charting single “LSI (Love Sex Intelligence),” had broken through commercially. Earlier recordings had frequently cast her as a diva, yet her debut solo album, Galactica Rush, issued in 1995, adopted a restrained mood by merging soul and jazz accents with electronic touches. Two years afterward she delivered her follow-up, Language Electric. Various remixes of her tracks have since appeared, and she has also issued an acoustic EP.
