Country guitarist Joe Carr launched multiple solo albums across the years while also serving a stint in the bluegrass band Country Gazette, contributing guest spots to other performers' projects, and releasing a long series of instructional guitar videos. Entirely self-taught, he picked up the guitar at thirteen after hearing Doc Watson, then added mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and ukulele to his instrumental range. Carr entered Country Gazette during the late seventies, playing on All This and Money Too in 1978 and American & Clean in 1981, and exited the group in 1984 to work with additional musicians, begin a solo path, and join the faculty of the commercial music program at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. Among his solo titles are Let's Go Dancing Down in Texas and Line Dance Party Texas Style. He teamed with former Country Gazette banjo player Alan Munde for the album Windy Days and Dusty Skies and the book Neon Lights: A History of Country Music in West Texas, while also creating numerous instructional videos for Mel Bay that span Western swing, bluegrass, and hard rock.
