Johanna Kurkela

Born in Lumijoki, Finland, during April 1985, Johanna Kurkela trained on classical violin and piano while also developing her vocal abilities, establishing herself as a versatile pop performer. Recognition across her native country arrived after she took part in the national selection process for Finland’s Eurovision Song Contest entry, an appearance that occurred in 2007. Prior to that contest, she had already launched her recording career with the 2005 release of her debut album Hetki Hiljaa (A Moment’s Silence) and contributed tracks to the compilations Tilkkutäkki and Tilkkutäkki 2. Her sixth-place finish in the Eurovision preliminaries led to an improved contract, which enabled the swift release of her follow-up album, Marmoritaivas, before the year ended.
