Biography
John McLean, a jazz guitarist whose path has spanned multiple regions, spent his formative years in Long Island, NY, and Detroit before studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After that stretch he moved to Florida, completing a master’s degree at the University of Miami in 1988, then continued north to Nova Scotia for a teaching post and finally established himself in Chicago to concentrate on performance. There he rose among the city’s foremost jazz guitarists, appearing on roughly 20 sessions by other musicians—including the Chicago vocalists Terry Callier, Grazyna Auguscik, and Patricia Barber—and sharing stages with Randy Brecker, Jane Ira Bloom, and Jerry Garnelli, among additional collaborators. His debut solo album, Easy Go, arrived in September 2001 on the Premonition Records label.
