Born on November 30, 1964, in Kingston, Jamaica, Kevin Anthony Jackson later performed under the name Sanchez as a reggae vocalist. During his teenage years he sang in his church choir, yet high school sparked a growing fascination with reggae that led to his appointment as selector for the neighborhood Rambo Sound System. He soon added singing to his activities, issuing the debut single “Lady in Red” in 1987 and, the following year, achieving a substantial success with the Winston Riley-produced “Loneliness.” Celebrated for his smooth vocal delivery and his taste for pop interpretations—including a hit version of Tracy Chapman’s “Baby Can I Hold You”—Sanchez has issued numerous albums, among them 1989’s Number One, 1993’s Tell It Like It Is, 1995’s Praise Him, and 1999’s True Identity. Songs from the Heart appeared in mid-2000. The gospel set He’s Got the Power arrived in 2003, whereas the 2010 release Now and Forever signaled a return to secular repertoire. Love You More, comprising renditions of R&B classics, reached listeners in 2011.
