Biography
Known primarily for his stage portrayals of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables and The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom of the Opera, theater actor and singer John Owen-Jones also issues easy listening albums.
Although the EP Hallelujah marked his recording debut in 2006, musical theater material did not enter his output until the self-titled full-length album of 2009. The pattern held through later projects such as 2012's Unmasked, yet his third record, Rise, issued in 2015, drew instead on outside repertoire that encompassed familiar hymns and Welsh songs. Exploration of his theatrical roots continued with the fourth album, 2017's Bring Him Home, whose title references the Les Misérables number. Additional musical theater selections appeared on the 2019 album Spotlight, among them the notable track "From Now On" from The Greatest Showman.
