After captivating crowds across her native England for much of the 1990s, Ruthie Henshall stepped onto Broadway for the first time in Kander & Ebb's Chicago during 2001. Her enchanting and formidable vocal ability quickly generated fresh prospects on American soil. Guest appearances on NBC's Law & Order and CBS's Mysteries of 71st Street came next, yet these forays into acting remained brief. Henshall's deepest devotion stayed with singing, and her homeland continued to celebrate her. Performances in A Chorus Line, Miss Saigon, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats secured her renown. In 2001 the Theatregoers Club of Great Britain named her the most popular musical actress of the preceding 21 years. Her aspirations in music kept climbing through the opening years of the new millennium. That same year she elevated her recorded work by releasing her debut album, Pilgrim.
