Biography
Rebecca Luker came into the world in Helena, Alabama, on April 17, 1961, and spent her childhood in Birmingham. Her initial Broadway appearance came as a replacement in The Phantom of the Opera. The first role she created originated on the New York stage arrived with a featured assignment in The Secret Garden, which opened April 25, 1991. Subsequent starring turns included the Broadway revivals of Show Boat beginning October 2, 1994, The Sound of Music beginning March 12, 1998, and The Music Man beginning April 27, 2000. She later joined the 2003 revival of Nine as a replacement and remained with the original Broadway company of Mary Poppins from its October 14, 2006, premiere through February 27, 2010. Regional musical productions have also formed a steady part of her stage work.
Luker is featured on the Broadway cast albums of The Secret Garden, Show Boat, The Sound of Music, and The Music Man while contributing to numerous additional concert and studio cast recordings. Varèse Sarabande issued her first solo collection, Anything Goes: Rebecca Luker Sings Cole Porter, on March 26, 1996. PS Classics followed with her second album, Leaving Home, on March 16, 2004, and her third, Greenwich Time, on October 20, 2009.
