Biography
Australian singer, guitarist, and songwriter John Williamson has spent three decades delighting audiences through his signature brand of Australian-style country music. Over that span he has released nearly 30 albums, moved millions of units, earned close to two dozen Australian Country Music Golden Guitar Awards, watched multiple albums reach platinum status, produced eight videos, and made appearances across several television series. Such accomplishments stand out for someone raised on a bush farm who once expected to spend his life working the land.
Throughout most of the 1970s Williamson treated music as steady employment rather than a permanent vocation. By the 1980s he had committed fully to the industry, and the deep professional foundations he established since then make any departure unlikely. His listeners, already confident in his staying power, have welcomed the decision.
More recently Williamson has introduced his recordings to listeners abroad, including audiences in England, while the internet now places his catalog a few clicks from fans everywhere. Among the hundreds of tracks available on his albums are “Love Is a Good Woman,” “True Blue,” “Home Among the Gum Trees,” “Prettiest Girl in the Kimberley,” “This Is Australia Calling,” “Raining of the Rock,” and “Rosewood Hill.”
