Biography
Amber Lawrence's vocal style leans toward a gentle sweetness that bridges her initial roots-oriented work with her later, more refined country-pop recordings. She entered the music scene in her native Australia somewhat later than many peers, issuing her first full-length project, The Mile, in 2007 when she was approaching 30. The album drew early recognition from the Golden Guitar Awards, which put her forward for both New Talent and Female Artist of the Year honors. She ultimately claimed the Female Artist of the Year prize in 2015 once her fourth studio album, Superheroes, achieved strong commercial success. That momentum helped expand her following, leading to her highest-charting single, Spark, in 2019.
Born in Mascot, a Sydney suburb, Lawrence completed her studies at the University of New South Wales and joined Qantas as a chartered accountant. She remained with the airline for six years before stepping away to focus on music full time.
Her recording career began with the 2006 EP I've Got the Blues, followed by The Mile the next year. That debut album earned nominations from both the Golden Guitar Awards and the Australian Independent Record Labels Association for Independent Country Album of the Year. When It All Comes Down appeared in 2009 and brought her the People's Choice Award for Female Artist of the Year from the Golden Guitar organization. Her third album, titled 3, arrived in 2011, while its 2014 follow-up, Superheroes, proved decisive in securing another Female Artist of the Year victory at the Golden Guitar Awards.
A live release, Hometown Girl, surfaced in 2015, and the children's project The Kids Gone Country came out the following year. Happy Ever After, positioned as the direct successor to Superheroes, also reached stores in 2016. In 2017 she issued the collaborative album Our Backyard with Travis Collins as well as the holiday collection Aussie Aussie Christmas. That same year, at the invitation of the American Australian Association, Lawrence traveled to New York to perform "100 Year Handshake" for an audience that included Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Donald Trump. The track gained widespread online attention over the ensuing months, paving the way for the 2019 studio album Spark.
