Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, singer and songwriter Shane Nicholson first drew notice as the frontman and guitarist of rock outfit Pretty Violet Stain. Music had captivated him since childhood, prompting him to assemble the group during high school; their debut release, Parachutes and Gravity, surfaced on Warner in 2000. After leaving the band, Nicholson issued his initial solo outing, It's a Movie, via Virt in 2003; that set contained a duet with Australian country star Kasey Chambers, whom he later wed. His second album, Faith and Science, arrived in 2006. In 2008 he collaborated again with Chambers on Rattlin' Bones while simultaneously delivering his third solo collection, Familiar Ghosts. The live set Live at the Sydney Opera House followed one year later. Bad Machines returned him to the studio in 2011 and earned an ARIA Country Album of the Year nomination plus six CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia nods. Nicholson and Chambers unveiled their second joint project, Wreck & Ruin, in 2012, highlighted by the single "Adam & Eve." Securing a deal with Lost Highway Australia/Universal Music, he released his first concert album, Pitch, Roll & Yaw: Live and Solo, in 2014. The following June, the single "Hell Breaks Loose" preceded his ninth studio album of the same name, which chronicled the emotional aftermath of his 2014 divorce from Chambers. That record captured an ARIA for Best Country Album together with the CMAA Alternative Country Album of the Year honor. Love and Blood, Nicholson’s tenth studio album, appeared in August 2017.
